Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Isle of Palms area. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation home in Isle of Palms:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful home with a gorgeous saltwater pool, 1 block from the beach - 806 Carolina has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a certain Isle of Palms attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
