Our top Rental booking tips:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 913 Carolina Boulevard by AvantStay
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a certain Isle of Palms attraction you are enamored with, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
