Tips to get the very best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Isle of Palms area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Isle of Palms area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental home in the Isle of Palms area:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sawyer by AvantStay
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
