Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. 4 BR, Resort Amenities and short walk to beach, shops, dining has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
