How to get the best vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront 1st Floor Condo!! Community Pool & Fishing Pier! In the Heart of IOP! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
