Tips to get the perfect Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Isle of Palms area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental:

  • First, have your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 17 Marsh Island Lane by AvantStay
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Isle of Palms destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
