How to get the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • To get the best value, shift your family's Isle of Palms vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the best Isle of Palms rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. 131 Grand Pavilion by AvantStay
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
