Money Saving Rental Tips

  • Many rental owners and vacation rental properties supply Isle of Palms area vacation discount books that feature offers, either offered individually by vendors, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the local itself. Keep an eye out for these guides and discount books, as this allows vacationers to take advantage of the very same activities at a often substantial discounted.
  • Are the vacation dates flexible? Off-peak rates are usually a fraction of high costs.
  • Are you a armed forces veteran? A number of property management companies offer discounted rates to veterans and active-duty servicemembers. Be sure to confirm with vacation rental company to see if your visiting crew is eligible for a reduction.
  • Some rental homes are basically designed to serve specific customers, whether it's beachfront units with fishing pier passes, city-center homes with close access to shopping or waterfront homes that feature their own kiteboarding launching areas. If there's a particular Isle of Palms atteaction you simply love, keep an eye out for rental properties that cater especially to your needs.
  • Give thought to investing in trip insurance with your rental contract. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, provides travellers reimbursement of their rental expenses for any days missed resulting from personal medical emergencies or storms, in addition to ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected motel stay or extra gas.

How to Book a Vacation Home

Newcomers are often shocked at the range and variety of weekly rental properties available in the Isle of Palms area. Vacation home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of essential search sites like Tripadvisor and VRBO.

Vacation homes are commonly owner operated or managed by rental management companies. Vacation rental management companies leverage scale, technology and practical experience to provide easy operational administration on behalf of the owner..

We have put together a short guide to help you get the most out of your rental home experience.

How to find and reserve the best vacation rental:

Do you believe "Casual cottage w/screened porch & shared pool - walk to the beach!" is the best vacation property for your upcoming visit? Browse through this checklist to confirm it fits your preferences.

Search Early and Frequently

Isle of Palms rental homes are reserved many months (and up to a year) in advance. To find the best selection, begin your planning and search 6-12 months before a trip. Many families choose to start their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve gatherings.

Pick a Village and Date

Consensus can be tough among relatives, but once this complicated part is complete everything will start to fall in place.

Just How Many Bedrooms?

How many family members are joining your vacation? Be aware that most rentals advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the living room. You'll need to determine what is acceptable for the family. Generally rental home listings will describe each one of the unit's specific bedrooms and mattress sizes.

Exactly What Are You Prepared to Shell out?

Does your preferred vacation property fit your budget during that preferred Summer week? If multiple individuals or family members are sharing the cost, ensure each group understands their obligations and has agreed to a maximum they are prepared to chip in. Usually, just one member of the group will be responsible for making the complete reservation and recovering each person's contribution.

Compose a list of "Wishes" and "Necessities"

What amenities is the family looking for? Is a screened-in deck a necessity? Will the property need to be beachfront, downtown, or near restaurants? Does the rental have bikes and beach toys available as part of your stay? Make a list of "needs and preferences" from your group to help narrow your search to the perfect rental.

Accessibility and Special Issues to consider

Do some members of your party have special needs? Make sure to remember and ask about wheelchair entry, pool lifts and special equipment requirements..

Take the Dog

Do not forget to include your companion! Pets are welcome at many vacation rentals, but policies differ. Read your contract carefully! Extra charges may apply when animals are included. Ask questions *well before* you reserve!

Searching the Internet

After the area, travel dates and people are decided, search multiple resources for the greatest rental home selection. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we recommend searching Google for "Isle of Palms local rental homes" for local rental home management companies. Local companies usually have a unique assortment of rental homes daily and weekly.

Negotiate the Price

When you have identified your dream rental, double check to make sure your vacation dates are available.

Some rental owners will negotiate prices, and some will not. If they are hesitant to budge on a highly-desirable stay, try getting an extra night. Off-peak weeks will probably be negotiable more often than peak-season..

Study the Contract

You really need to know which services are included:

  • Utility bills
  • WIFI Access
  • Long Distance Calls
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Cleaning Fees
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance policies
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Fees

In addition to the normal rate, guests have to pay state taxes when renting "Casual cottage w/screened porch & shared pool - walk to the beach!", as well as any other fees which might be mandatory based upon their situation, including a pet charge, early check-in or late check-out fee, or a pool heater fee for private swimming pool usage during the autumn or spring months.

Trip Insurance

Cancellation policies are different for each rental. Vacation rental management companies and home owners often offer their clients the option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance safeguards the renter against emergencies and weather events, It offers peace of mind should disaster strike.

Complete the Booking

When you feel you've found "the one", begin the reservation process. You'll probably be required to submit a security deposit at time of reservation.

Get Contact Info

Be sure to get the manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend saving the contact's details in your smart phone and wallet.

Good luck on reserving your vacation rental! You're on the way to a phenomenal vacation!

During your Stay

  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas of the property. We also recommend immediately calling the rental manager with a report of any problems, together with your request for any necessary fixes. If there is a difference of opinion about responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts could be valuable.
  • Ask questions. If there is any ambiguity about parking, policies of the property, property access, swimming pool operations, etc... we advise you ask the rental home manager promptly. A phone call can save hours of hassle.
  • Please be respectful of the local community. More often than not, surrounding households are lived in by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and vehicle parking restrictions can make a visit significantly more pleasurable.
  • Ask a local. Local residences can often point you in the right direction.
  • Make certain to protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation home locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.

Check Out Time

  • Tidy up a bit. Despite the fact that you're spending money on a cleaning fee, The rental home is required to be in good condition. Sinks stuffed with pots and pans, surplus beach sand on the floor and sticky messes ought to be taken care of prior to leaving.
  • Be sure to walk through the rental home one final time and check for damage. We advise walking through with the rental manager whenever feasible (this may not be possible).. If the property manager is not available, make certain to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How would you rate your experience? Many rental management companies and vacation rental websites permit customers to offer feedback. If your property and/or property manager was first-rate, they will appreciate your positive reviews. If something went wrong, we recommend being kind but honest with regards to your experience. The best owners and managers will work very hard to solve the problem.

Learn and Improve

Hold a meeting with your family. Does everyone want to go back? Hopefully this guide steered you to a great rental. Maybe the rental property wasn't ideal, and you will better understand how to improve your search for the next time.
